Andre Lhote
André Lhote (1885-1962)
André Lhote enrolled in Ecole des Beaux Arts in Bordeaux in 1898 where he studied decorative sculpture. He learned how to sculpt for nearly six years, all the while continuing to teach himself to paint until 1906 when he moved to Paris. It was there that he was influenced by the work of Cezanne and Gauguin, eventually participating in his first exhibition at the Galerie Druet in 1910.
By 1911, he essentially abandoned Fauvism to focus on Cubism, joining the Section d'Or group. He progressed forward to become one of the founding fathers of modern art as we know it.
